CASE STUDY

WHY IS SHANI EXPERIENCING PAIN?

Shani is a 17 year old woman who started ballet at 15 years old, and at the beginning of this year was thrilled to be allowed to go en pointe (when a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet within pointe shoes) and started dancing full time at her ballet school. She comes in about 6 weeks into her first term complaining of pain behind her ankle. It’s particularly bad as she rises up onto pointe and also when she’s up en pointe. She says it is 'not too bad' with jumping.
