Climate change and Sustainability in Healthcare

This module explores the wide-reaching effects of climate change on public health, with a specific focus on sport and exercise medicine. It examines the health risks climate change poses, particularly for vulnerable populations and those with chronic diseases. The module addresses the impact on vector-borne diseases, food and water security, air quality, and mental health.

Additionally, it covers the effects on organised sport, physical activity, and recreation, highlighting the role of sports professionals as advocates for reducing carbon emissions. Practical strategies for incorporating low-carbon practices, such as exercise prescription, and reducing low-value care in healthcare are also presented.
